Reflecting on Ska Nah Doht

If you were to be transported back in time 1,000 years ago as a member of the Ska Nah Doht village, what do you think would be the hardest part of living back then?  Use information you learned on the trip as well as your own thinking to support your answer.

The hardest part is that you have to hunt for food not only that it’s harder but there’s more predators like bears, wolves and eagles. Plus there’s also herbivores that eat the crops like deer, rabbits and bugs.So the hardest part would be food i guess that’s why we have farmers to do all the work humans are lazy.

I think it would be hard to live life. Hunt for food, But hundting was more for men. So the 2nd most would be cering for the kids. That is what would be hard for me.

I learned that the winter would be the hardest part for the people because the food that they hunt will be in hibernation and all the plants would be dead so if you run out of food some of your family in your long house could strave to death and if you don’t have the warmest blankets you or someone in your long house could catch hypothermia and die of the cold weather that is what I think is the hardest part about 1,000 years ago.
p.s I learned that from the giude Karen thougt us that.

I think that it would be hard to find food and like what time of year good food grows and how to learn how to hunt and make their fur in to blankets, clothes and other things but the one thing i loved their was when we got to sit and be in the long houses and see how they lived 1,000 years ago.

I think the hardest part of living 1000 years would be having to hunt for food because you could possibly risk your life hunting for food for your family.
Also having to hunt by yourself and not having a nice warm home to come to like we do today insted you would come home to a cold rough long house and sleeping in the long house on sticks and logs. With the smoke from the fire filling up the whole house

I think it would be hard to get food and water because you would have to travel
out of where you live till you find a river.Food would be hard because you have to hunt animals.

The hardest part of living in the world 1,000 years ago would be havig to live in the long house, and I know that it”s all they had but for me that would me really tough because I dont really like how you don’t get enough privacy . It isn’t to warm in the long house either. The other thing i wouldn’t like about the long house is when i went there and we sat down it wasn’t to comfortable and thinking of how we live now we have couches in our houses and as the privacy we have our own doors in our houses now.

I think the hardest part of living 1.000 years ago would be skinning animals to get food and there skin because I wouldint like to kill animals for food or clothing

another thing is building houses and long houses and stuff like that because you would have to get wood tree branches leather rocks and then building it

my favourite part of the field trip is playing tag in the woods it was awesome.

Hunting beacuse it would be hard to to catch fast animals like deers and rabbits beacuse they have good ears and if they here a sound then they will run away and it would be hard to hunt with little tools like rocks and arow heads and the bad thng about that is it would not be easy to get really close to a bear with out it seeing you.

i think the hardes part would be skining the animals and making clothes out of the animal hide and dieing the hide with brains becaues i would hate to kill a baby deer or a moose and other animals.

my favurite part of the trip was when we played survival tag in the forest it was fun becaues it was slippery and wet.i also really liked our gide karen she was really nice

I think the hardest thing in 1,000 years ago was for woman to cook because you had too get your food bat your self and there were no cars to travel to get food. Also it will be harder to make food for your family in winter because it ia so cold out sayd so you have to go out sayd to do your food you can do your food in side but it will be cold too. there were no hearter in there houses 1,000 years ago just like how we do these day thats why i think cooking is the hardest thing to do 1,000 years ago.

So i think we have more anerje because we have lights and internet 1,000 years ago there were no anerje and internet!

Also my favrot part in the fieal trip was wen we went in the long house and we got to sit there and also wen we played the game servayvel tag in the woods all thow it was so cold and muddy it was still so fun!

If I was transported back 1,ooo years I think the hardest part would be to keep myself healthy with food. I personaly think just to get a meal takes alot of steps. One is you usually need to build or borrow a weapon. Then with that weapon you have to find an animal. Then you have to kill that animal. Then you need to find something to cook it on.Then you have to cut it.Big animals would be tuff to cut unless you had a giant “Tool” you could say. Also if you are a male with a family you cant just go outside and see something and kill it and eat it. You need to go for quite long walks way out of your village and into a forest to get a big enough meal for your family.

My favourite part of the trip was when we played “Tag” in the forest I think it shows how hard it actually was to live back then.

I think the hardest part would be to have the role of the Clan Mother because first of all, you have to take care of the entire village. Second of all you have to make the decisions of the village that might mean life and death.

What I liked about the trip is the game of survival because you played it in a real forest and it gives you real survival smarts.

I think the hardest thing would be finding food to eat. I know that they went hunting to get food, but it is all meat. That would be very hard for me because I’m a vegetarian so I would only have herbs to eat. Also considering they eat more meat than vegtables I would get hungry easly. I would also have no energy because vegtables don’t really have any protein but meat has a lot of protein. I also get dicusted when people eat meat in front of me, I get really close to throwing up when I smell it. If people are constantly eat meat I think I woukd have to sit away from everywhere else in the long house.

I think the hardest part of living back 1000 years ago would be finding food. Because you would need hunters ( trained) and knowing what kind of food too get. Because you could not just see some berrys and eat them but they could not be edibal. And you need to know were, when and how to get it / kill the animal. I think food would be hard because Karen our guide told us that if the water was not good and there was not so much fish to eat and animals you would not survive so you would have to fiind the food and then save it. So I would think finding food would be the hardest.

  16. Riad April 25, 2013 / 12:06 pm

Maybe getting food was the hardest thing because you could get killed, and you had to share the food with the family, (if you had one) and just get stuff you can’t go to the store or anything like that, it is like a survival game in real life. Also back then it’s every person for him or her self, (or a family for them self.)

What I liked about the trip is the HUNTER GAMES! it was like cache craze to me or something like that.

If I were o go back 1,000 years the hardest thing for me to do would be being the clan mother because if you have alot of grand children and daugters its gonna be hard to choose who’s gonna be the next clan mother because if they all do a good job at showing they can be the next clan mother then it’s gonna be kind of hard to choose.

The hardest part for me will be to get used to everything that is different. We won’t have any technology, no stoves, fridges, clothes, everything will be diffrent from the way it is today. I would need to learn how to skin animals (without puking), how to farm, how to sew, everything that a woman in that time period needs to know. It would be especially hard getting used to the lifestyle! Getting up early, having chores to do as soon as you wake up! I really don’t think I could do that, the only thing I do is sometimes take out the garbage when my mom asks and set the table! It would be difficult, and different. But, the things that I liked about it is how the log houses were made! They can really bring a family together and makes us get along better! Overall, I thought the whole experience was awesome! Espcially the wilderness tag, that was just amazing!

The hardest thing is sleeping you have to sleep in the most uncomfortable beds plus in the winter it would be so cold and in the summer it would be so hot .I would not have slept once in those beds. That is the hardest part of living in that time.

  20. Jake April 25, 2013 / 12:16 pm

The hardest part would be hunting because you have to be very stealthy because animals have a good sence of smell. You also have to have good hand eye coordination. The second hardest thing is making clothes for your family.

I think the Hardest part of being in Ska Dont village 1,000 ago would be being a man.I think this because Caren said that they are the ones who who have to walk around 2 km a day to get food for 3 families in a long house. And the farthest I have ever walked is 2 or 3 miles .And I think that somtimes there would not be alot of food so they would have to walk farthur than usual and somtimes they might not come back with enough so the families would not get alot to eat for dinner. And since there is not enough food they would have to buid a whole new village for everyone .

I think that the hardest part about going back in time 1,000 years ago would be taking care of the Enviroment because every time a tree is cut down another one has to be planted and what would happen if you ran out of seeds?
Also trying not to hunt all the animals in a certain amount of time.
I enjoyed survival tag because we learned about how they hunted!
