Field Trip Update

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

We are still planning to go on the field trip tomorrow.  I’ve been in touch with the folks at Longwoods Conservation Area and they tell me the roads are clear and the park is accessible.  It will be very cold with the wind chill in the morning so please remember to dress in layers and bundle up in appropriate winter gear.  On the upside, the fresh snow will guarantee a wonderful snowshoeing experience!

The only factor that would prevent us from going would be no buses running and/or a deterioration in road conditions.  Like this morning, I will send out any necessary updates or change in plans via the blog and Class Dojo – likely between 6:00 and 6:30 am.  If you hear nothing otherwise, assume your child will need to be at the school for 7:30 tomorrow morning.

Due to the time needed for travel, we have to depart early (7:45am) and we’ll return later than usual (4:15pm or so). Please make arrangements for your child to be at the school for 7:30 so bathroom breaks and a head count can be done. Likewise, please ensure your child has a safe way to return home.

For the trip, students need to dress for the weather and be prepared for long periods of time outside. Winter boots, coats, hats and gloves are a must. Wearing layers is strongly recommended. Students should eat a hearty breakfast as they will spend a lot of energy on the trip visiting an Iroquoian longhouse village and snowshoeing. Likewise, lunch should be filling and litter-free (whatever we bring to the park, we take back with us). There is no food to buy at the park, nor are there methods to reheat food.

There is a small gift shop with items for purchase in the range of $2-25 if students wish to bring some spending cash. The cost of this trip is free due to an outdoor education grant I applied for back in the fall (otherwise the price would have run each student about $40).

Lastly, we need at least two adult chaperones to join us. There is plenty of room on the bus, or you can follow the bus in the comfort of your own vehicle. There is no charge to parents either. Please let me know as soon as possible if you’d like to come along.

Any and all parents who wish to attend are welcome to come along. I believe I have at least four attending but the more the merrier!
